Jack Black has vowed never to star in a biopic of late comedian John Belushi–fearing it would tarnish the reputation of his comedy idol. Agreed! 100%! You would get slaughtered Jack…..smart move.
He says,
“I think it falls into that trap of when a comedian is playing a comedian it’s just less funny. His (Belushi’s) life is not as funny as his work, and watching me do an imitation of him doing his Saturday Night Live bits won’t be as funny as watching him do his SNL bits.
“I think it falls into that category of when Jim Carrey did (Andy Kaufman biopic) Man on the Moon. Just because the guy is an amazing and compelling artist doesn’t mean that telling his story is going to be interesting to watch.”
Jim Carrey was not available to respond but could be thinking, “You aren’t worthy to full my finger Mr. Black….alrighty then?”
My prediction is that this role was made for the John Belushi wanna-be, Howard Stern sidekick: Artie Lange. Artie is the fat, drug abuser, radio personality from the #1 rated program: THE HOWARD STERN SHOW, which can only be heard on Sirius Satelite Radio. Artie started as the “fat guy” on the original Mad TV cast and has many SNL friends and business contacts. Although he is a shitty actor, he could pull this role off. Just like John, Artie has throw away his life and health for alcohol, drugs, hookers, and all the dark vices life has to offer.
Belushi died of an overdose in 1983 at the age of 33 after a long battle with alcohol and drugs. Artie being the underachiever that he is, is unfortunately still alive at age 40.
