Andy Dick And Jon Lovitz Fight

By Celebrity Gossip • on July 18, 2007

Two of America’s most famous “nerd” comedians, Saturday Night Live stars Jon Lovitz and Andy Dick, have brawled in an LA comedy club over the decade-old shooting death of fellow comedian Phil Hartman. The fight occurred at the Laugh Factory, Hollywood, this month and was witnessed by club owner Jamie Masada.

Here’s the reason they fought:

Five months before Brynn Hartman killed her husband Phil Hartman, they held a Christmas party at their home. Jon Lovitz and Andy Dick were both at that party. Phil and Jon both flipped out when Andy openly did cocaine and gave some to Brynn. Everybody knew that Brynn was sober for over 10 years and Jon seems to think that Andy is the one that opened her up to that world again.

Jon said that last year he ran into Andy. Andy told him, “I put the “Phil Hartman hex” on you - you’re the next one to die.’ I said, ‘What did you say?’ and he repeated it. I wanted to punch his face in, but I don’t hit women.”

Jon told Page Six that he ran into Andy again last week where it all came to head. He said, “I wanted him to say he was sorry for the ‘Phil Hartman hex. First he says, ‘I don’t remember saying that.’ Then he leans in and says, ‘You know why I said it? Because you said I killed Phil Hartman.’ Which I never said. Then he asked me to be in his new movie. “I grabbed him by the shirt and leaned him over and said, ‘I don’t want to be in your movie! I don’t want to be in your life!’ I pushed him against the rail. Then I pushed him again really hard. A security guard broke it up. I’m not proud of it . . . but he’s a disgusting human being.”

Witnesses say that Jon picked Andy up and smashed his head into the bar several times. They say blood was pouring from Andy’s nose. Um….that was probably from the coke being shaken around in there.

Here’s my take on Jon Lovitz and Andy Dick:

Jon Lovitz ruined Saturday Night Live during the late 80s. The only good character he had was the pathelogical liar. He sucks. I actually met him at a Lakers game in the bathroom, and he acted like he was George Clooney, arrogant and couldn’t be bothered. As per Andy Dick, (you are all going to hate this) he is a comedy genius. Andy is really misunderstood. His schtick is extremely bizarre and shocking. He is not a conventional comedian like everyone else. I would say he is way ahead of his time, like Andy Kaufman was back in the day. I could care less if he is gay or not, he always brings excitement to anything he works on. As per this fight and incident, Andy definately deserved to get beaten down, I am just surprised this troll was the one to do it. As bad as it was, it’s FUNNY, but in a DARK way.

If you are going to report on any news of hollywood, you need need to be biased. Rule #1. It goes to show you are a piece of s.h.it reported. You are picking sides not fair to Jon. So go f.u.c.k. yourself

Hey you obviously don’t read this blog, do you? I always take sides. Lastly, I did report the incident objectively, then I gave my opinions on the two celebutards. So Piss Off !

This is the second time I heard about this - first time was on TV which told about the fight part (not the history). After reading the history, I agree Andy’s was being a Dick - this assuming he did coke in front of/gave some to Brynn after her 10 years clean. I’ll have to research the history but assume you’re correct (since responder didn’t dispute Andy/Brynn/coke).

I also agree with the comic assessment - I don’t know that/if Jon destroyed SNL (to me it was a group effort) since I didn’t watch much after Phil was gone (or was it Norm McDonald?), but I do know that he didn’t do much for me on NewsRadio (hadn’t thought of it, but the loud/emphasis/his style of humor is fairly generic), but he does have his moments - the routine is fairly common, but Jon delivers as no one else (he does the “sophicated/nose-in-air routine” pretty good) - though NO ONE can do the SNIAR as Phil did.

Andy IS unique. I read one article saying he was a “physical” comedian, as often showed on intros of NR (falling over backwards with coffee pot in hand, etc…), and I like watching him - he does (or has) a natural “confused state” that adds much to the routines.

I’m glad Jon nailed Andy after the second PH hex statement. I assume Andy really didn’t remember the first time (buzzed at time??), and when it came up the second time, Andy could have said “yeah I’m sorry” etc, but instead said it again. Thanks Jon. Andy’s statement was an insult to Phil (regardless of whether Andy restarted Brynn) and I’m glad Jon defended him.

Well, you had a fag, a jew, and a mexican in this story. All it’s missing is a cripple and a nun and Hollywood will be right in the universe.

By aladybug on July 25th, 2007 at 3:22 pm

I missed the Mexican. Who was and or where did the Mexican come in to play? Is Jon Lovitz the Mexican? Or the guy who sold the coke? Or the grippe on set at SNL? Also, the nun healed the cripple, duh.

Jon SAVED SNL in the 80’s. Where were you? Jon and Andy both have raw comedy talent. Jon developed his through a career and achieved relative success. Andy Dick COULD have been a great talent but the drugs destroyed him. I have given Andy several chances through the years to get it together but after hearing this I cannot forgive. To destroy your own life and talent is one thing but to contribute into the environment that was going on here…and then to lose Phil. Sickening.

you are an idiot. you condone the actions of a “comedic genius” that is a habitual drug user. get a life you retard. and your blog really sucks.

I hope Andy Dick gets hit by a truck.

Jon is the least versatile comedian to ever on the cast of SNL. I agree with the writer, Andy Dick being who he is will get him into some controversial situations, but he is funny as hell and I want to watch everything he is a part of.
Jon didn’t destroy SNL, but he was a huge part of its downfall at the time.
I am waaayy behind in celeb news

you are a moron. you were bothering him in the bathroom you dumbass. if i was in the bathroom taking a piss i wouldn’t want to be bothered either. you didn’t really meet him, you saw him and bugged him while he was trying to use the restroom. i doubt he goes into the bathroom to sign autographs.

andy dick is a coked out wannabe comedian/actor who sucks at life.

Dear Celebrity Gossip (r.e. tony)
It’s sad these days when you can’t have an opinion anymore. I personally found your reporting more than fair and a breath of fresh air for todays politically correct world.I was just looking for the whole story “no fluff” that’s exactly what i found on this site,(which i’ve never visited before btw and plan to bookmark!)after searching several sites , to no avail. So thank you very much STAR MUSCLE!oh ,and TONY, in the future,if you wish to get completely unopinionated news , dont read from something under the heading CELEBRITY GOSSIP! oh and , learn to write. Besides the pathetic and cowardly swear words, I think you made at least 6 grammatical errors in like 2 sentences. Are you sure you can read properly?

I’m bothered by this blog, and apparently our society these days, the whole problem with this article was when Andy made fun of Phil Hartman towards Jon Lovitz. Now regardless whether it was Jon’s fault or Andy’s fault, I think that it was the honorable thing to do to defend Phil’s name. Andy might not be that funny, nor is Jon, however, Phil Hartman was a comic genius, and he is dead as a result of Andy, yet people still defend Andy, people who are defending Andy may as well be coke-heads themselves and deserve to have their mind’s messed with, and like I said, sure Jon was in the wrong, but imagine, what if it were Mike Myers or any other of the SNL stars. I’m pretty sure they would have done the same thing too. He was like family to them, and if you were there defending Andy because you believe what Jon did was wrong, I think they would knock your ass out too. I don’t care about grammatical errors, because I’m too appalled at this blog’s history. PHIL STILL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

By Phil Hartman Fan on December 4th, 2007 at 11:15 am

Besides, if one of your friends died, and then someone made fun of them towards you, tell me you wouldn’t knock them on their ass. It’s human nature to defend what you think is right, and yes I may seem biased, but Jon was, and there is nothing anyone can say to change that

Blog author,

What you said about Andy Dick being a comedic genius is something that only a handful of close friends and I have known and believed for years.

Andy Dick has the best timing of anyone performing comedy today and while some may find his outlandishness “one-dimensional,” “obnoxious,” etc. his physical comedy is only the surface level of what he’s capable of.

Not only a masterful director, Andy Dick brings a completely original and fresh take on often random, self-defacing humor. I too get the feeling that thirty years from now, he’ll the credit that’s long overdue.

For further evidence, check out an archive of A. Dick’s website.

Lovitz, on the other hand, may have an occasional decent moment is painfully mediocre. It doesn’t take a comedic genius to realize this guy is nothing but an overly frustrated, artistically insecure, and relatively unsatisfying comedian — as far as my tastes are concerned.

For further evidence check out his recent myspace “secret standup” video. Sad stuff, indeed.

phil hartman’s death was tragic, make no mistake about it. But it’s not only ludicrous to blame andy dick for such a tragedy, it’s shameful.

andy dick is a piece of shit. I hope he dies.

Wow, there are some evil, fucked-up motherfuckers out there. I think the article is great and the picture of Phil thanking Andy for getting him killed is gut-busting funny.

Andy, Jon and Phil are all great. Phil was one of the funniest motherfuckers around. Jon is a great comedian and Andy is just freakin’ weird, strange and hilarious. I love watching him, he’s a guaranteed laugh.

How can anyone blame him? I saw him on the Tom Green show and he said he doesn’t even remember giving Brynn coke. How many of us have gone to a party and had someone offer us coke? Several? Usually, the person just doesn’t want to be rude. I’m sure Andy wasn’t planning anything devious and I’m sure there were several people with coke at that party. Brynn was probably around it all night and could have snorted with anyone, and probably did.

Was it fucked up of him to say that to Jon? Yes. Was it fucking hilarious? Yes. He should have said he was sorry but didn’t. I would have punched him, too.

By the way, I agree with a previous post that said this was the best info on the web about the incident. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find more than a couple of paragraphs.
