Puerto Rican Day Parade In New York
He Bangs, He Bangs !!!
Ricky Martin, Puerto Rico’s all-time top-selling artist, added a new honor to go with his multiple Grammy awards on Thursday — he was named king of the 50th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York.Parade organizers said the honor recognizes Martin’s musical success and his efforts to fight the exploitation of children worldwide.
“He has always expressed his pride as a Puerto Rican and a Latino, parade committee president Madelyn Lugo said in a news release. “He has served as one of our greatest ambassadors, and we can’t think of a better role model to honor as the King of the Parade.
Man this guy has kinda fallen off the planet, hasn’t he? It’s good to see him getting back into the spotlight. I have always thought his mainstream breakthrough album (can’t remember the name) was great for a pop album. Go Ricky Go !

Puerto Rican day parade is a piece of shit. It’s a celebration of low lives, degenerates, and people who accomplished nothing in life. If you fags like your Puerto Rico so much, go back to your 3rd world ghetto and live with your criminals and drug addicts.
By OneOsix on June 6th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Talk about racist, closet fags and jealous rage people. We all know that comments like that only serve to prove that our culture is large, alive and improved. While other Hispanic and insignificant cultures in NYC generate such a tiny fraction of parade attention.–BLAH! You are just mad because our parade gets a LOT OF ATTENTION! We even have the European sneaker makers producing sneakers for the occassion. Thats Right!! Because we are that IMPORTANT to the economy and business sector while you sulk in your insignificant existence.Your ideals don’t count for $h!T!!!!!

By ydapride on June 10th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
Why are you puerto rican’s so proud? You’re not the best at everything, you’re not the best of any of the latin american countries and if you were more educated you would know that PR isn’t even a damn country, you’re a freakin common wealth! What is there to celebrate your independence? Too much pride for no reason, I say have pride in your “country” but you definitely over do it and half of the PR population does not even know how the situation is back in their precious island.
By unknown on June 10th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
you people have to go to school and study a little more of history. im a history teacher and i do know puerto rico is a rich country with beautiful culture and an american citizen.
By boricua4live on June 10th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
It really pisses you off that boricuas are so proud ydapride??? That is your opinion. It’s a free country isn’t, ohh yes, and Puerto Rico is common wealth, so that means we’re free too. We don’t have to deal with the bu”:^&*t that’s going on with immagration. What is the privilege of being independent again? :-) Yeah I thought so. Everyone has a right to be proud of their race, and culture it just so happens that Puerto Ricans do it a whole lot better!!!!
By Rosie on June 10th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Whoever created this banner is a total moron.. It’s obvious that you’re jealous of a true idol. Ricky Martin has helped lots of children. Now if he is gay who the fck cares? I still respect him, and I love his music. So get a life and stop being so jealous….

People, I am not PR.I am a hispanic. Why can’t we just all get along. PR, Black, White, Asian Whatever. Does anyone know why Ricky Martin was the Grand King of the parade? Well, it’s because he uses his voice to help children who don’t a a voice to be heard. Or who others don’t give a shit to hear. he is devoted to children who are being used as slaves in countries all over the world. Yes, including USA. Get your heads out your ass and take a stand. If we all speak up together and help each other our own children will be better people. Whether he is gay or not. SO FUCKEN WHAT! I personally adore him and I am a straight woman. If he can do something to help a child in need i don’t care what the fuck he is……..Think before you act people. Thanks
PS By the way Story goes that Rcky had a girlfriend that had cancer and she died. That is why he was away from the spot light for about 3-4 years.

Boricua, we have a beautiful island and rich history. Our music has the best rhythms with poetic lyrics that fills the air and penetrates your senses. We are a beautiful people of african, european, and taino blend. Many are those who have reached the heights of success and pulled themselves up from meager beginnings. We have much to be proud of. We can’t help the ignorance of others, but we can help ourselves to be a people that doesn’t sit back, but rises up and makes the most of our lives and our God given talents.
Today is a day to celebrate our Puerto Rican heritage. That it’s the “50th” anniversary of the parade is a tribute to our parents, grandparents and all those that came before us. They made the tradition and kept it going strong.
We are many, we are strong, and we’re not going anywhere. So, get used to it!
Que Viva Puerto Rico!! God Bless our island and all our people.

Just curious, why not take the PR parade to the Islands of Puerto Rico vs. New York? What better way to show your PR pride than doing things the authentic way. It appears that Puerto Ricans want to publicly show their “pride” in one of USA’s most prevlant cities while blasting salsa tunes but recent statistics have shown that their are more PR’s living in the US than in Puerto Rico–why leave your home if the culture is as rich as what is expressed? While you are showing your pride for your great homeland I hope someone takes the time out to evaluate the status quo of your beloved PR commuity. Though PR’s are citizens of the US the land itself is merley a US territory if you want to march the streets and raise your flags let it be for a reason.

By o.martini on June 11th, 2007 at 2:39 am
Ignoramus!! We never left Puerto Rico. We’ve always been here. Many of us born and raised right here in good ol’ New York. We don’t have to wave the flag on the island. It’s already waving beautifully and grandly there.
We have two homes; ours and our parents, that’s just the way it is. I don’t think our spirits could be quenched by your “merley a US territory”, and “raise your flags for a reason”. It’s our parents flag, and it’s beautiful, that’s good enough. We’ll deal with the politics later.
Our rich culture is alive and strong here, as well as on the homeland. So, we celebrate it and parade it. Sorry, if the music is too LOUD!!!
By o.martini on June 11th, 2007 at 3:01 am
By the way our Cuban inspired flag was a sign of our solidarity with Cuba.
This doesn’t effect the spirit of the celebration and the flag waving on 5th Ave.
By steph on June 11th, 2007 at 3:08 am
I agree with claudia, what does one’s sexual orientation have anything to do with anything else? Ricky Martin has done so much for others and that’s that. I doubt he is gay, but even if he is I bet what he has done is a lot more than what straight people have done for others combined.
By steve on June 11th, 2007 at 3:54 am
i’m an italian-american married to a puerto rican woman. i’ve been to puerto rico, which is a beautiful island with kind people and a culture that reminds me of my own. these racist comments are so unfounded, they’re almost funny. unless you’re american-indian, your ancesters came from a foriegn land also, maybe you should go back to where your families are from. anyway, a celebration should be just that, and not commented on by racist idiots. ricky martin is a human being….good enough for me!
By Bocon Boricua on June 11th, 2007 at 9:27 am
Well first of all here is a brief lesson on US history for you all ignorant’s and haters out there. Puerto Rico has been part of the US since 1898, and Puerto Ricans are Natural Born US citizens (and proud of it). So my advice give it a rest we are going to be here with you for ever like it or not. Now racism and being a Klan member is something else. The way I look at it is that Racism is illegal, and if you want respect, you better show some respect. Can you think diversity? Had it ever occurred to you that US Citizens (people like you) come in all different colors and sizes, not just white or black?
What about the residents of Guam, US Virgin Islands????
The PR day parade is celebrated because we are very proud of our culture in the island, heritage and being US citizens proud of the US.

Ricky Martin reigned as king at the 50th anniversary of the Puerto Rican parade on Sunday as tens of thousands gathered to celebrate their homeland.
The pop star was joined by Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a ceremonial ribbon cutting before ascending a float that promoted the Ricky Martin Foundation, which advocates for child welfare around the world.
Fans screamed as the float made its way up Fifth Avenue. “We were about to pass out, we were so happy to see him,” said Tania Ochoteco, 33, of the Bronx.
More screams greeted last year’s grand marshals Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, who made a surprise repeat appearance on separate floats.
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Puerto Rican Gov. Anibal Acevedo-Vila joined Bloomberg at the head of the parade.
There were marching bands, beauty queens and uniformed city workers dancing to salsa blaring from scores of floats.
TV personality Geraldo Rivera held a flag in one hand and a microphone in the other.
Although it was impossible to estimate the crowd, hundreds of thousands have attended in recent years.

Just on the outside looking in…I was in NYC on Sunday and saw everyone heading to the parade with their flags. I’m a 40-something white woman from the south and thought that it was great to see ANY group of Americans coming together to celebrate a common bond in a fun, peaceful way. Why do some people have to be such morons, getting all up in other people’s business??

YDAPRIDE and everyone else who is taking their sweet time writing what ever it is that you wrote, (didn’t really pay to much attention to it, but here it goes. If you look at history, Puerto Rico is a country full of culture and history, Most of us still keep that culture even if we were born and raised in New York. Just in case you or anyone else hasen’t notice, if you as a “Newyorican” where he’s from, He or she will always tell you that they’re Puerto Rican, even if they never really set foot in the precious island. It’s just a pride that we are born with, and I feel sorry for you (I’m sure you dont know the meaning of Pride or maybe your family forgot where they really came from) How about you go to “Family Tree.com” and do some research, you might find a lot of interesting things about your past and your family history, Hey there must be a reason why your grandparents left their precious contry, Right?…Go to school and educate your self, is the only way to relieve your mind from all that ignorance. And for the Gay part, We’re free and open to be who we want to be, Is time to grow up and look at the world. “A murderer can say he made a mistake and be well accepted by the world for that mistake, but a gay person will never be accepted for being him” I dont get it. If we open up our minds, and just live life, maybe things would be different. Like I say “Live your life, not theirs.” Be safe. Ray

To: The hater who called Ricky Martin a homo!
My question to you is do you know Ricky personally? If not keep your mouth shut and stop pointing fingers. I bet my Boricua A** that if by chance and I doubt it very much you do know Ricky Martin you’re pissed and angry cause he FkED your mother, your daughters your nieces and your old grandmother. In fact he probabaly FKED you too and you liked it and can’t look in the mirror because you can’t accept yourself. So grow up accept your homosexuality, get out of the closet and hold your head UP. When people point fingers at others you DUMBLOWLIFE BORICUA WANNABE you are turning attention away from you. SO GET A LIFE, go find the man of your dreams and leave RICKY ALONE!!!!!!!! GET IT HOMO OR DO YOU WANT IT IN DONALD DUCK LANGUAGE??? A PROUD BORICUA DE LA ISLA

By reign360reign@aol.com on June 12th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
this article and whoever wrote it was misinformed. There were almost 300 arrests and I know this because I was one of them. I was arrested for Unlawful Assembly and Disorderly Conduct. I was walking with a friend to and will tell you with 100% honesty ,I was not doing ANYTHING wrong. There were a few people ahead of use shouting “Boricua!”, but of who wouldnt expect that at the PR Parade? An undercover police officer, just grabbed my arm, put those plastic zip cuffs on me and told me to sit down? After asking what I did wrong , he explained to me what I would be being charged with. I hadn’t even made it to the parade yet! This happened on 42nd and 7th. The cops were just posted up there and then just started grabbing people at random and I was lucky enough to be one of them.
Subsequently, I was held for over 25 hours and as of now (48 hours later), I was told I can not get my phone back until FRIDAY, becuase of the massive operation and property sorting. I plead not guitly and will be going to trial. I am definitely considering legal action so if anyone here knows of a good lawyer who may be interested, please let me know. Thanks.
By KATIE on June 13th, 2007 at 7:57 am
While I really sympathize with you that you were arrested for something unkown to you, well you know what they say no one is ever guilty, just walk into any jail and they’re all inocent. But as a Boricua whose been to the parade numerous times I’ve seen police corned and bullied Boricuas that are just having fun and enjoying the largest and by far the biggest parade our nation celebrates. I don’t know of any good lawyers in New York however, Al Sharpton does pro-bono and he’s knowN to help much Boricuas in need. Good luck suing city hall and keep me posted. Most cops at the parade are nice and tolarate us for when we get loud we get loud, and the louder the better! LMAO… then there are some cops that are just plain racist that don’t want to stay in the hot sun with their uniforms staring at what they considered is a waste of their time. WELL SHAME ON THEM CAUSE ITS THEIR JOB TO KEEP ORDER AND LIKE IT OR NOT WATCH OUR PARADE.
ONE MORE THING TO THE HATERS HERE. IF YOU DON’T LIKE BORICUAS WELL GET THE HELL OUT OF NEW YORK, ORLAND, CHICAGO, CONNECTICUT, MASSACHUSSETS, AND A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER MAJOR CITES. CAUSE HATERS BORICUAS ARE HERE TO STAY AND WE’RE NOT PACIFISTS ANY MORE. NOW WE HAVE A VOICE AND HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE ON RACISM. LMAOOOOO VIVA PUERTO RICO!!!!!!!! AND LONG LIVE USA TOO… DAMN WE HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS AND SOME PEOPLE CAN’T HANDLE IT. LMAOOOOOOOOO
By Batichica on June 23rd, 2007 at 4:17 pm
Well, this is the problem. There is a lots of latinos in NYC that are not Puerto Ricans. They come from Republican Dominican. These people are extremely poors, and they treat womens like shit. They still peoples identities and and they are starving to merry you to obtain their green cards and becomes US citizens. They don’t show respect for neighbors, they are loud’ and do not leave anything on your back yard, even your basketball will be “stollen”. In other words they are obnascious people. Their childrens runs free on the streets late at night disturbing the neighbors screeming loud and destroying private properties. Oh! they also are so getto washing their cars with their music so loud(getto) they don’t care if you don’t like their music, you must swallowed it like it or not.. Do not talk bad about my Puerto Rican People, we are Us citizens. Americans came to our Island and intervene with Spain, we never ask the Americans to free us as a Spain Colony. Read the history of my Island “Please” before you comment anything negative. And for the Republic Dominicans, please go back to your ancient Island of cruelty towards womens and childrens, thats why I admire Ricky Martin for his crusade againts childrens trafficking and sex slavery on childrens….
By Katie on June 25th, 2007 at 7:41 am
Batichica, I’m Puerto Rican and like all my Boricuas I’m also a very proud one. But please don’t generalize about Dominicans, there are good and bad in all nationalities.
I happen to personally know many hardworking, good Dominican people who love and embrace us Boricuas. Yes there are of course many who dislike us because of our American status and because we have a Voice here in the mainland, but they are only just a rotten few. As per the haters here… keep hating all you want… Boricuas are Americans…and we’re here to stay like it or not.
Viva Puerto Rico and Viva USA because I feel very lucky to have the best of both worlds! LOL I can combine my apple pie with arroz con dulce, my rock and roll with Bomba y Plena and that’s one more thing I’m feeding the haters to fill their empty, pathetic, racist, bigotry, idiotic brains.

Katie, keep on representing. This is how we are; SMART, STRONG, OUTSPOKEN, BEAUTIFUL, PUERTO RICAN QUEENS. We’re a force all on our own. ;-)
By Katie on July 6th, 2007 at 7:08 am
To Boricua4live and all my Boricua Brothers and Sisters here. Yes, we are not only smart but intelligent, we are strong, outspoken, humble and yet proud. We are pacifist but we are also fierce. We don’t give up easily and everyday we struggle to better ourselves more and more. What the haters here don’t understand or just don’t want to admit is that we Puerto Ricans are Americans. That we love being American and being Puerto Rican. That we are Americans citizens either if born on the Island or in the mainland. They hate us because once a long time ago, our ancesters that first migrigated here, worked meek jobs but work they did. Yes they did work as dishwashers, and hairdressers and they cleaned houses or worked in factories, but they chose to teach us NO they demanded from us the newer generations to go to school, to learn to speak English even with an accent. They taught us to assimilate to the American way. My father (rest in peace) taught my brothers and I, to love America to be proud that we were Americans and to defend our country and respect it. He also taught us the value and the privilages it was to be born American, but he always told us never to forget our roots and to learn and keep our Spanish language. He taught us to dance rock and roll, he encouraged us to learn all things American, but he also said we needed to know and love Puerto Rico. He was a proud Puerto Rican. Therefore he also taught us how to dance Salsa, Bomba y Plena, decimas and what a cuatro and a seis chorriao was. Yes we always had the traditinal Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie, but on the table we combined our dinner with arroz con gandules, guineitos en escaveche, and some flan de coco. You see, what the haters don’t understand or don’t want to admit or just simply hate us for is because we have the best of both worlds! We have two beautiful flags for which will die for, two beautiful countries, two beautiful anthems two places to call home and the best part is that we show how proud we are. Most haters here like all other immigrants don’t speak the native tongue of their ancestors nor have they visited the land of their roots. I question if they even know the pollitical status of the lands/countries their ancesters came from or if they know what their ancestors flags look like. I’m pretty postive they don’t! So you see haters, you became American and you forgot nor never learned of the beauty or potential your of your roots. So stop hating and instead try learning a little about your roots. You may be surprised of all you’ve missed. I have a strong feeling that the grandparents, parents of the haters here had no pride from wherever they came from and thats why now their children go to know nothing but hating on others that take pride of their heritage like we Puerto Ricans aka Boricuas do. Quite frankly, I don’t give a damn where they came from, so long as I know where I came from and continue to be proud of both my heritages. So keep hating haters, it won’t hurt us one bit. We Boricuas are here to stay, and have educated ourselves and armed ourselves with knowledge and schooling. Now we don’t wash dishes, nor do we clean houses, or do hairdressings or work in factories (by saying this I’m in no way degrading anyone, work is honorable so long as its an honest/legal living) my point is that now we Boricuas have higher standing jobs, we are now Doctors,Lawyes,Politicians,Register Nurses,Paramedics,Reporters not to mention how many of us are in the arts. SO MY BORICUAS CONTINUE TO BE PROUD AND DON’T EVER LET A HATER SAYT YOU’RE NOTHING. THEY HAVE NOTHING!! THEY HAVE NO PRIDE, NO IDENTITY all they have is hatred, bigoted hearts and fear because we now have a VOICE and its a very LOUD VOICE, and because since we are as American as we are Puerto Rican we can do it all twice as better. Long Live America y que Vivia Puerto Rico!

To number 53 aka Puerto Rico sucks says:
First off I take great offense in the way you portray Puerto Ricans. I’m sorry that you’re so ignorant to even post your degrading and riduculous remarks in this forum. If I were you I would do my research on Puerto Ricans and then comment before putting your foot in your mouth like you just have. You say that you live in NYC., well you must be living in some ghetto where lots of latinos live and due to their illegal status in our country they claim to be Puerto Ricans, when in fact they are not. You also say that Puerto Rican woman are fat and that we like to show it all off. Well I’m sorry to be the one to burst your bubblehead but you are wrong again. Most if not all Puerto Rican women are beautiful with great to die for looking bodies and we have 5 Miss Universes to prove it we come in 2nd to USA with 7, and yes we like showing it off but not in the way you suggest we do. You also say that we are lazy and hang out on the street, make noise and live on welfare! How dare you ignorant racist to say these things and to generalize us Boricuas for a few bad apples!!! You didn’t mention your nationality or your ethical background, but I’m thinking that you are Italian since you mentinoned the festivities of when Italy won the world cup. Well listen here BUBBLEHEAD, though I have great respect and love Italians (I have Italians in my family through marriage) most Italians I know are good hardworking people, of high moral standards… however, should I then say that all Italian women reek of garlic and tomatoes sauce and wear a filthy apron when they answer the door, or that they don’t shave their legs or underarms? Should I say that all Italian men are bullies and/or mafiosos? Should I say that all Italians are racist pigs and that all Italians work in Pizza restaurants as a cover up for their drug dealing and making of cement shoes, should I say that all Italian young girls go around dressing like little hushy mamas at the malls and that most of them loose their virginity before they hit age 14? Should I also generalize and say that all Italian Catholic priest are pedophiles, who molest little boys at the altar? No bubblehead I won’t say that because I’m smarter than you will ever be and know that in all nationalities there are the good, the bad and the ugly. Yes there is one thing you are right about and that is that we are LOUD and PROUD! We are loud and make noise and people hear us. Too bad for you if you have to live in NYC where very proudly every year on the second Sunday of June we celebrate our roots, culture and heritage. Bubblehead have you ever been to your own Parade and seen how we Puerto Ricans salute you and cheer you on your day. Have you ever been to any of ours where a group of Italians also salute us and are not haters like you? My advise, and its a very good one is that you book a vacation getaway around the last week of May and come back 3 weeks later when we finish our partying. On second thought that wouldn’t work quite well either, because after the Biggest and Largest Parade by far in our nation that’s right bubblehead our nation, we then have the Brooklyn Puerto Rican Day Parade, the Bronx Puerto Rican day Parade, the Queens Puerto Rican day Parade, I’m not sure if Staten Island holds one and that pretty much covers NYC. Then Comes NJ. Mass.,Conn.,Chicago, Orlando and yes Bubblehead even in Hawaii. So Bubblehead if you have any brains at all and I quite frankly think you do, I suggest you try to assimilate to our ways which are not the way you’re portraying us to be. I also suggest that your take off that blindfold that has poisned you with bigotry, hatred, and has made you ridged and narrowminded. What a poor excuse for an Italian are you? Take a look in the mirror, smile bubblehead you’re probably not as ugly as you write.

LONG LIVE AMERICA Y QUE VIVA PUERTO RICO
By Victor on July 13th, 2007 at 1:38 am
What a shameful and sad thread of posts… The ignorance exhibited by many of you amazes me. You know who you are. I am a native Puerto Rican because I was born in Puerto Rico. I am a native U.S. citizen because I was born in Puerto Rico. Isn’t that interesting? Like many of you, I am proud to be Puerto Rican. Like many of you, I am proud to be an American. The term Puerto Rican-American (hardly ever used) is an oxymoron. If you are Puerto Rican, you are an American. Like it or not. Period. And the fact that Puerto Rico is not a state doesn’t make it inferior to any of the fifty states. The current status, commonwealth, territory, colony, whatever label you want to put on it, is one that has been agreed upon by the residents of Puerto Rico and the federal government. That status could change someday. However, U.S. citizenship cannot be taken away (unless the residents of Puerto Rico voted for independence someday, a very unlikely event that would only affect those residing there). But that’s an extremely loaded subject for a separate post.
Unlike some of you, I don’t see a correlation between heritage, culture, or nationality and a perceived sense of individual or collective superiority. Being Puerto Rican doesn’t make me better than an Italian or a Dominican. Being a decent person, a law-abiding citizen, a good son, a good father and spouse… That is criteria that used in comparison could qualify as “superior”.
I am a highly educated professional and my opinions in the real world are widely respected. Whether I am expressing myself in English or in Spanish, I think before I speak. I was going to ignore these posts, however, I decided to make a statement, not in reply to anyone in particular, but to anyone who cares to “listen”. And btw, if there’s anybody out there who thinks I have a holier-than-thou attitude, I can cuss like a sailor. But I don’t hide behind the Internet to insult others. Anybody can be a tough “guy” in anonymity.
There are some people out there (perhaps some of you have heard of Al-Qaeda or the Taliban…anybody out there who remembers 9/11?) who want to destroy ALL OF US. Perhaps some of you may want to work on changing your negative attitudes and racists views, channel the energy within you into becoming better people, and become human beings first. Because when it’s all said and done, “no importara cuantos concursos de belleza Puerto Rico gana, ni importara si Ricky Martin es gay o no, it won’t matter if Italy wins the World Cup…”.
Our main common thread is our humanity. Remember that. God forbid, if another big terrorist attack takes place and I happen to be there as an aide or as a victim, I promise, your national origin nor your religion will matter. I hope you will help save me because I know I will try to help you.
Now, do we understand each other?
By Katie on July 13th, 2007 at 3:05 am
Victor I read you very clear… I am with you… because you are so right in all you say. Some people are so hateful and hold so much bigotry in their hearts that eventually they drown in it. I’ll be the better person by ignoring the racist up above and focus instead on the priorties of my country or should say both of my countries
USA and Puerto Rico. Thank you for representing us so well.

Ummm…having lived on the upper east side for 20 years, I can attest. This is one parade I truly dread. Not due to the race or origins of the people in it, but their behavior.
Attend a few other events and compare. The Puerto Rican day parade, litters more than any other. The people are WAY more belligerent at this, than any other “celebration.” Top this off with a much higher degree of criminal offenses and vandalism, there you have it, a recipe for not liking the event. Race has nothing to do with it.
Often, when trying to soften the rowdy behavior surrounding this parade in a public relations sense, other events are called into comparison. No parade-none-come close to this one in the above mentioned factors.
Finally, a community that produces the type of men who would menace defenseless women should hang their heads in shame rather than running around like they just split the atom. I wouldn’t expect those who have their minds made up to understand, but this is why a decent upper east siders loath this event.
I’ve seen the BS surrounding this parade, and if people don’t like it, I think it’s pretty understandable.
By Jack Spratt on August 3rd, 2007 at 5:18 am
One more thing…that photo is stupid and racist.
By SaiLoW on August 4th, 2007 at 10:05 am
I agree with Jack Spratt. I don’t care about the race or origins for the parade. The biggest reason I’ve hated Puerto Rican Day, is the people driving around honking at other Puerto Ricans showing their pride. I am Asian, and the way we celebrate Chinese New Year is saying happy chinese new years, followed by a couple of lines, all leading to good luck. ANYTHING done wrong in the week of Chinese New Years, is considered disrespectful towards the family. Back to the topic. Mainly the worst of the Puerto Rican people are the unaccompanied “gangster” or “hard” children from 10-20ish. Personally those are the ONLY ones I hate. And are probably the ones that are becoming the stereotypical Puerto Ricans.

lmao wow, i am puerto rican, and i find the parade to be the most ridiculous thing in the world, i think it is annoying and embarassing, it is a time for every dumb puerto rican to show up and act ridiculous, they wear the ugliest cheapest outfits and just disgust me, i usually see them on the day of the dreaded parade, and laugh at all of them for being so naive and tacky, worst of all they look at me like i’m crazy for not being in proper spandex and flags tied around my waist, well the parade is a waste of time, they should ban it, it pisses me off every year, and the funniest thing is you see about a million puerto ricans, and wonder “where the hell do they come from”, and before any of you ’super spicks’ come to battle my comment, just remember to spell everything right, because half of you can’t spell to save the puerto rican flag, anyway its not something to be proud of, and when people ask me what I am, I simply say American, fuck latin roots!

To: Adriana, you’re not Puerto Rican you’re a hater in disguise. If you have to wonder ” how the hell did all these Puerto Ricans get here?’ that’s evidence enough for me that you’re nothing but prejudice maggot full of bigotry. If by chance you are Puerto Rican than I feel for you, for you have no identity!!! SAD,SAD,SAD!!
By the way, your spelling is pretty good, but GIRL you need serious lessons in grammer… GET A LIFE! Better yet try and get along with all ethnic backgrounds… you’ll learn that in all cultures the good, the bad and the ugly like yourself excist. The last time I heard about this putrid event was four years ago, and the article mentioned how that sludge-fest ended with the greaseballs grabbing a lot of White girls and then groping their crotches. Sounds pretty typical of the culture.
I’m truly amazed that they haven’t banned this parade-of-nothing after that despicable demonstration. Even the Mexicans hate them!

To: no 66 ‘Junker’
Your name fits you very well Junker like in a stupid junkie with fried brains who opens his idiotic pathetic mouth before knowing his facts. First of Junker, get your story straight, when 5 years ago the parade got a bad rap because some idiots decided to grope some girls… when all was done, said and investigated slimeball guess what??
They were’nt Puerto Ricans!!! While I hate to mention their nationalities I’ll tell you anyway so that you won’t continue to make a fool for yourself. Two (2) were Dominican and one was Colombian!!! While they did manage to give us a bad rap (for a few weeks) I know that most if not all Dominicans, Colombians, and Mexicans as well as most of Central and South Americans love Boricuas aka Puerto Ricans just as much as we love and embrace them. So Junkie, ahh excuse me Junker before you decide to post here beware!!! I’m watching/reading and TRUST ME I’m not a greaseball… I’m American born of Puerto Rican parents which by the way Junkie are born American citizens like it or not. So hater either you appologize or don’t even think about posting your racists remarks here.
Kati a proud NewYorrican who loves apple pie and arroz con dulce! Humm Junkie our next parade will be the second Sunday of June 2008 maybe you should try and have a lil fun and witness for yourself what a great and wonderful parade it is and why its also the BIGGEST AND LARGEST PARADE BY FAR RIGHT HERE IN THE MAINLAND!!! Got it Junkie ahh Junker??

Yo, for real, why talk shit about a different race? All these racist ass fuckin people being very ignorant about others gets me pissed off. First of all, dont make generalizations because of a couple people who fuck up. For one…white people, stay shut, u guys are fuckin suicidal and crazy ass mother fuckers, so stfu(Colombine?) Ya think ya better than others cuz ya speak proper english? Well guess what bitches, ya culture is so fuckin boring, at least we try to add some sazon in our culture. Black people…cocky ass mother fuckers who always pick fights with everybody. Ya gotta calm down, i know ya went through alot your people’s history, but ya mad hypocritical sayin “nigga” every other sentence, ya think people owe ya something? Work hard for what ya want. Asians, mad respect for ya, your women have to stop prostituting tho, I’ve too many asian porn stars in my day. Puerto Ricans, Cool people, but ya have gotten a bad rep for some of the shit that has happened in a couple of your parades and your arrogant attitudes. Dominicans (mi gente!!!) wuz really good mano. Yea, we ghetto, but dont fucking hate. Platano con queso, w/ cervesa on the side. Our culture is so fuckin beautiful. We run shit and we’re a small ass fuckin country, thas when u know you gotta be proud. LA FUCKIN PATRIA ma nigga.
DONT DISCRIMINATE, We shouldnt try to put each other down, instead act together to make the world better. If we piss each other off, we’ll be wiped off the face of the earth, “Weapons of mass destruction”? “Nuclear Bombs”? Yea, these things exist, so lets try to all get along and help each other out. All cultures and races have their good things and bad things, Thats why America is the greatest fuckin country in the fuckin world, AMERICA — All men expressing their roots intelligence and culture aloud. Take care all, please stop dissin each other, it wont help anybody, cuz i sure as hell am not gonna change.
PS ANOTHER THING>>>>LEARN TO FUCKIN SPELL (I did mispell alot of words cuz this isnt a essay, but come on, some of the shit people wrote were rediculously mispelled)
By dubs on October 12th, 2007 at 9:18 am
You know, I don’t know why racist people state phrases with such anger. If you want someone to go back to their country or common wealth then why don’t we all go back, because what history shows us is that this country was taken away from the native Indians who inhabited this country, as a matter of fact if we want to get technical Amerigo vespucci, a Italian voyager, was the one who found America, that’s why it’s called America, so do your homework before you send someone back to their country and ask yourself if they should move or if you should move. See, I am a Puerto Rican American and the same way you feel that I should go back to Puerto Rico, you should go back to Ireland, Germany, Britain, France, Australia, Austria, Russia, etc. or whatever racist country your descendants come from. By the way everyone is proud of their culture and background; I have never met anyone who wasn’t.

^^^LOL YOU FORGOT MOTHER SPAIN, SPAIN IS A NOTORIOUSLY RACIST COUNTRY TOWARDS AFRICANS, AND OTHER KINDS OF BLACKS WHO MIGRATE THERE, THEFUTBOL COACH EVEN DISRESPECTED FRANCES FUTBOL PLAYER THEIRRY HENRY a black guy from france
so while you tell americans who are not native american to go back to europe then you leave america then go to puerto rico and when you get there take yo ass back to spain.
theguy that said puerto ricans dont know anything about pr is right, the french has influence in the island of pr!
theres puerto ricans not of african descent
theres puerto ricans thats asian and of pacific islander origin so to say that puerto ricans are a blend of taino, african and spanish is absolutely b.s
theres also a few puerto ricans with italian names on the pr national team
By dave on November 15th, 2007 at 2:19 am
let me just tell you I live in PR and it sucks. I am from the states and have visited many states in my lfe including other countries and PR is the worst by far. In PR I still can’t figure out if people act the way they do cause they’re stupid, ignorant or a little of both. Whether it’s simply shopping or driving around and trying to grab a bite to eat i wintness constant displays of stupidty, ignorance or I don’t give a shit is displayed. They can’t drive worth of crap. I have driven in every traffic ladened state and PR by far has the most ignorant drivers ever. At leat 1 in 4 cars has no brake lights, no one uses blinkers. These morans protest over anything right in the middle of public streets creating traffic jams. They’re lazy. They blast shitty music with rediculous speakers everywhere. The beaches are nice until you watch the trash blow around. Speaking of trash, it is everywhere. I have never witnessed so many people not give a shit about where they throw their trash. The women dress like whores. Customer service is an unknown word here. I hate it here and I’m stuck here. People stop wherever they want on the highway. They talk on their cell phones whether driving or working or whatever and talking on the cell phone takes all thier brain capacity away cause when a puerto rican is on their cell phone they are dead to the world. I have never witnessed so many smashed cars also. It’s like these people were barbaric and then all of sudden the US introduced them to highways, cars, cell phones, restaurants and they have know idea what to do or how to handle it. Anyone can say what they want that I’m wrong or blah blah blah. Listen I live here and until I did I really didn’t have an oponion on PR or its people.
By Anon Imus on December 28th, 2007 at 4:59 am
yo, i aint racist but… you puerto ricans make a bad name for yourselves as far as im concerned. Im a black 16 year old female and for the short while of living in the virgin islands I have observed the puerto rican ethnic group so to speak and and their attitude and i say y’all dont need no parade. The way you portray yourselves is awful. Its always an I dont give a shit attitude. you know it’s really awful and im 16… Everytime i drive behind a puerto rican they are either throwing garbage out their driver’s window or driving really crappy or stopping in the middle of the road to make conversation with a pedestrian. and my neighbors….god dont let me start on them their always blasting their music in the middle of the night on their car system in the car that is parked in their yard or on their house speaker system and talkin so friggin loud i cant sleep sometimes, i go to school tired as hell and i aint no snitch so i aint gonna call the police on them. on top of that they tresspass my yard and pick all of the fruit off my tree all the good ripe ones at least and their kids have no respect they comerunning around in my yard even when Im taking a shower it’s really disturbing you know. and they always talk so loudly when they are on their fone i dont need to know who you were banging last night! Jeez i just become so overwhelmed when i review all the bull i have to go through with my neighbors. and as for the blasting music in their car on the road i dont think that should be an issue bcuz it is after all their car so if they want to enjoy their music let them. I have met some really nice puerto ricans though but these are the church kind. Maybe more of yall should go to church lol

wow this is really sad to see. i cant believe people are so sterotypical about one country.Im not saying that your being racist but its pretty fucked up that people have to descriminate over a very beautiful culture. When you talk about Puerto Rico why are you bringing up the flaws? when you should really look at the bright side of Puerto Rico. i find it really sad that while im trying to find a little info about my culture i come across hurtful things that these haters say. Puerto Rico may not have a true reason for having there parade but who cares. accpet the fact that your expirencing something new and fresh every year just to get a taste. The only thing im going to saw aboput that FuckP.R guy and the chick that says she cant sleep b.c we play our music to loud and when she drives behind a puerto rican they throw garbage out the window well news flash black people also play there music real loud and they treat every where they go like shit I should know because im half black and half puerto rican and if you did not know either Puerto Ricans come from black descent and black people are just as worse as any puerto rican cuz if you try to start something with a black person there only result is to start violence…so you should really find some facts b4 you start blaming one culture for everything because in a way we are all the same!

this is really incredible. so many people here talking alot about how great it is to be Puertorican and how other nationalities suck because they aren’t puertorican. all of you have been fooled into thinking that one culture is better than other. i know alot of great purtorican guys and girls, then again i know ALOT of puertorican guys and girls that i wouldn’t take out a dollar from my wallet in front of them for fear of being stabbed. i know alot of hard working PR’s guys and girls that work long and hard to support their families, then i know a ton that don’t give a shit where their babies are at as long as they can get ahead of the line at the welfare center. the fact is that I’m not PR but i’m married to a PR woman, and she is one of the best women out there….BUT I DIDN’T MARRY HER BECAUSE SHE IS PUERTO RICAN!!!!!! she is beautiful inside and out and and her being Hispanic is a plus but it is not the end all be all of her life. ok well, I actually can’t believe most of the things that I’ve read through here. I am half Dominican and half Greek and engaged to a Puerto Rican man. He must be the most decent, pleasant, respectful and beautiful man that I have ever dated. (beautiful inside and out). Because of some of the puerto ricans that I have met, I too held a few stereotypes against Puerto Ricans, particularly that I have met many who do not speak spanish. Maybe thats not a big deal, it is too me though, since I grew up in a household where embracing every aspect of our culture (American, Dominican and Greek) was paramount and that included learning english, spanish and greek. This is the way that I was brought up and am in no way saying that I am better than anyone else. That being said, throughout my adult years, I have met a few Puerto Ricans that regardless of them knowing spanish or not have totally gained my respect. I guess this served as a lesson. There are many of you here who have made stereotypical comments against Dominicans. I don’t get upset. I was one of you before, not anymore. There is no need for that, its disgusting and it truly sets one back. I can’t count how many times I stereotyped against the entire Puerto Rican ethnicity just because of a few stupid ones on the news. And as far as the parade, I do not like going to any not even the Dominican one, maybe the Greek one when I was younger(but that is just because my father has been taking me since i was a little girl, it is something that I am used too, so maybe it is why I consider it “safe”) but no parade is truly safe. I agree with someone who posted that its not about the ethnicity, its about how certain people at a parade act.
not all Puerto Ricans are the same and it is unfair to place them all in one category. There are good and bad everywhere, in every race and every country, lucky for me, I found a very good PR, and sexy too lol.
