Iranians are up in arms over the release of the recent American blockbuster, 300. The film, which is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, retells the story of 300 Spartans who fought against an enormous Persian army in the Battle of Thermopylae. According to Time magazine’s website, some Iranians are saying “the movie was secretly funded by the US government to prepare Americans for going to war against Iran.” One alleged newspaper headline seemed to sum up the feelings of the nation: “300 AGAINST 70 MILLION!”

See here in America, these movies that are put on the screen, are just that, MOVIES. Here solely for the entertainment and enjoyment of thrill seeking movie-goers, such as myself. I enjoyed the movie, but it did not make me wish attack upon Iran.
What is it about the cultural differances that forces Middle Eastern mindset toward death, destruction, bloodshed, and ultimately havoc. All I ever hear out of angry persian mouths is gypsy promises and curses of death.

You know that the movie 300 is based on a historical battle that happened during the Persian war in which the Spartans held the entrance into Greece. The movie was much darker than the origanal version because it was adapted from Frank Millar’s graphic novel. The most important thing is that it is a movie. Speaking about nuclear bombs no one country would set one off against another country because it would set off a chain reaction that would end up destroying the world and invading Iran at this moment would not be a very wise move because the war in Iraq is not liked and to invade another country as soon of the end of the war on Iraq is not the smartest thing to do!!!

I just watched a documentary made by a young british woman about the invasion of Iraq and she showed us how 80% of the targets destroyed -by the what so called “smart” weapons- were Iraqi civilian houses, how children were deformed after being hit by weapons, these scenes were so touching that made my heart sorrowful and made me hate more the american gov and the british gov for the crimes they did. With each day hearing the news about british and american soldiers killed in Iraq made me happy because “what goes around comes around”.The only way for america to be accepted again is to withdraw its forces and be more civilized by doing peace talks instead of tomahawks

What would an American war with Iran look like?
The first week stealth fighters and cruse missiles destroy all air defenses, command and control systems/stations. Then the real fireworks begin. Every oil refinery, pipe line, bridge telecommunication center, Airport, power generator, critical highways and bridges will be lost. One B52 can carry 32 SDB’s capable of hitting 32 preprogrammed targets. Think 200 sorties a day! Hundreds of fighter bombers flying thousands of sorties around the clock. The systematic destruction of your infrastructure takes two weeks. The destruction of Military vehicles and bases will take longer because there are so many targets, but nothing will save them. I do not know what caused the middle east tension in the first place but I can probably guess it happened when the US Governmet as always stuck its nose on other countries’ business. We have US Embassies all over the world and why do we not allow the same countries to have their own embassies here on our home soil? We dont have that many, just a few. The USGov goes around trying to be the world police while crime and drugs in our own country keeps going on the rise. The USGov wants all other hostile countries to adopt western democracy and accept Christianity. The USGov seriously needs to fire the person that manages the tax funds because we are in dire need of help here in our own american soil. We need to better ourselves. We need to have free reliable health care for everyone regardless of income (medicaid is a joke) and free dental. We need to raise the minimum wage to a rate that will not make you cry. We need to bring our troops back and keep them here in our shores, protecting our land.

First the story is being told by one of the Spartans that was there, the man with the blindfold. What he is doing is what many have done over and over since the beginning of time. He is embellishing a story, of course he is villianving the Persians and adding monsters to the story. He’s just trying to make it more entertaining.
As for an Iran/USA war. I don’t want to see it happen anymore then the next guy. I don’t think anyone really wants to see it happen. First the fact that for the Middle East, Iran is the most progressive and westernized country out there. Many of Iranians younger generation are growing up with western Ideals. Right now what we are seeing is the previous generation of radical leadership of Iran watching the end of their generation. They know without some major event in their country, before long reformers will be coming into power.
Even if we do go to war. Iran as to be very naive if they think they can win. Yes, if we invade they can carry out militia attacks like in Iraq. But that will only be after the majority of their army and government is destroyed.

It’s a Movie there is no political propaganda behind it Whether its true or not about the actuall history it was a good movie but alas thats all it was a movie. I don’t think I see a bunch of Spartans rising from the ashes and coming for the persians today. And for the nukes who cares think about it the Americans would attack now where would you launch your nukes at the forces smart ruin your own country. And say you could actually get the technoligy to hit the states it would’nt matter it would fuel the military already on your door steps. MOREOVER, the director of 300seems to lack any knowledge about Iran and its history in that Iranians are not black while actors acting as Persians are all black (of course, we respect all races for their humanity regardless of their color and language, and this is what Islam teaches us) and the costume they wear is not ancient Iranian clothes it seems more Arabic. The movie ‘Crossroads of Civilization’ made in 1970s by Westerns seems to be a more objective and fair version of this part of history because it is a documentary but it is undeniable that 300 has some political intentions behind. I guess the movie has nothing to do with a war against Iran simply because USA army is already stuck in Iraq and Afghanistan which lacked an organized army and opposed their governments. The movie intend to justify the unreasonable hostility the American government shows towards Iran and tried to convey the idea that Iranians are such barbaric people that they may invade others if they have power and nuclear bombs. But as it has repeatedly been announced, Iran is not seeking atomic bombs. We are just searching for peaceful applications of the energy in medicine, agriculture and industry.
I guess we should respect each other more and do not let politicians exploit us. If Iranians hate USA, that does not mean we hate American people. We respect all Americans and other nations who served humanity and civilization by their inventions and discoveries. The thing we hate is The American government policy as a symbol of arrogance, despotism, interference and oppression.

ok my friends i will give you my point of view. you are both wrong ( US and Iranians). first of all in the movie persians are like monsters, this is due to the reason that they had a huge army and everywhere they went they conquered. it just to show their power, i am greek and when i was going to school i was reading history, we have more history than all the countries together! i grew up with these stories and my routes come from sparta. we always were defeating Persians (no offense my iranian friends as i respect you) due to the reason that we were war machines, we learned the art of war, and athinians they had all the knowledge. for the first time in our history both cities - states got united and combined them. in the naval battle of Salamina we destroyed your fleet which was the biggest in history due to the cleverness of athinians and their fast and light ships! you had huge slow ships. the war in the sea was won by the athinians. ok for the battle in thermopylae we won because spartans were fighting like one unit in a very closed combat area. there only 2 chariots could pass not even 2 cars, they were fighting and exchanging warriors with the persons behind them letting them rest.
you won that battle eventually but later on you lost the war and retreated for ever.
this is the correct story! Persians are highly intellectual people that were always respected by us greeks!

This movie is based on historical facts - those facts are that the GREEKS fucked the persians 99% of the time, and always were outnumbered. The Greek Spartans, The Athenians, Alexander the Great - you name it - the Greeks fucked the Arabs and the Persians. DEMOCRACY and FREEDOM came from Greece. The Greeks destroyed the Persians over and over because they were brave and FREE men, whereas the Persians and Arabs were bound by mysticism and slavery.
300 is a true story. The movie added some mythology to the mix, like some of the creatures etc, but the story is true. This is one of many historical stories. Alexander the Great kicked the world’s ass all the way to India.
If it wasn’t for the Greeks, we wouldn’t be FREE today and most of you would be speaking that aweful/gutteral language of the Arabs. Thanks the Greeks for ROYALLY HANDING THE PERSIANS AND ARABS THERE ASSES ON A PLATE.

Real Iranians would probably understand the nature of movies and entertainment since they also got those.
It all sounds more like some western people that make fun of the situation. Basically that’s alright since it’s about the entertainment industry (300 is a movie to entertain, not a political one).
The historical parts of the movie are a bit better than in other fantasy movies that are inspired (not based) upon real facts. Still, this is a comic adaption meant to entertain.
Also, me as a german, I can still laugh heartily when Indiana Jones beats the crap out of Nazi soldiers :D
