Academy Award Winners 2007
Here’s my Academy Award Play-By-Play as I watch the show with my laptop burning my legs on my lap:
Ok I sat through 3 hours of red carpet garbage to finally get to a lame Ellen monologue. Her erratic style gets old after 2 minutes. Her box wine joke was pretty funny though. I wish Jon Stewert was doing it again. Seems like everyone is routing for MARTY (Martin Scorsese). Also Forrest Whittiter seems like a lock but I hate the lazy eyed bastard and feel that he is overrated. I honestly think his best work was on the TV show ER. Ryan Seacrest drove me insane with his querky attitude and his mentioning of how slim ties make you look taller (6 times he said it).
Best Art Direction: Pans Labyrinth
I think Pirates of The Carribean was much much better since Pan’s Labyrinth lied to everyone with a misleading movie trailer. There was ONLY 12 minutes of special effects and they made it out to be a great special effects movie. Bait and switch.
Looks like it might be the LATINA SHOW…Pan’s winning the first
Achievement in Makeup: Pans Labyrinth
Oh Boy, 2 Oscars and Both To Pan’s Labyrinth…gonna be a long night.
Best Animated Short: The Danish Poet
I have no comment, just happy Pans didn’t go 3 for 3.
Best Live Action Short: West Bank Story
Looks like its a West Side Story ripoff Bollywood Style. Why would you reward ripoff artists? I am hating this years awards so much right now.
Best Sound Editing:Letters from Iwo Jima
This is the Clint Eastwood film that shows the Japanese perspective. Looks like it is the foreign Academy Awards. When they like a particular theme they run with it.
Best Sound Mixing:Dreamgirls
This guy has won 3 award and 10th nomination. He is on top of his game it looks like.
Best Supporting Actor:Allan Arkin
I thought Allan Arkins role was more like a Christopher Walkin cameo. I didn’t think his performance was too believable.
Wow, I thought the child molestor guy or black guy from Blood Diamond would win. Looks like they are repecting the old guys. This guarantees Martin Scorsese will win.
Ellen still hasn’t done a wardrobe change, kinda a lame red velvet pant suit outfit.
Oh wow, now Melissa Etheridge live, all I see is a an old woman licking a carpet now. Wow I am recordly bored. Al Gore and Lionardo DiCaprio just did a Global Warming
Best Animated Film: Happy Feet
Its a Green/Foreign year. Yaaaaaaaahnnnnnnnn. I am falling asleep. God damn hippy cartoon.Lame lame lame.
Adapted Screenplay:The Departed
This was a tough category with Borat and Children of Men, and Notes on a Scandal. Good for him, it was a great film and I bet it was tough turning a book into a screenplay.
Best Costume Design:Marie Antoinette
I saw this movie in the theatre and was a little set back. I thought it was Francis Ford Copolla, but it was his daighter, Sophia. Her movies are elaborate in costumes (ah ah) and background, but boring and lame in plot. The movies have a unique style of not being exciting, but you are forced to appreciate the work. Its one of those: I kinda liked it but am impressed more with the effort for detal.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Sherie Lancing
Tom Cruise handed this out and I was typing about Marie Antoinette, sorry. She seemed important though.
Best Cinemantography:Pans Labyrinth
The Prestige should have won. Its like comparing the WNBA to the NBA folks. Not the same playing field. Total bullshit. Its not apples to apples folks. That’s my point. It pisses me off that there are 50
starving NYU students with more talent than this guillermo character and they won’t get the same recognition as this latin guy, cause he’s latin.
Best Special Effects:Pirates of the Carribean
I think they deserved this award.Great special effects, horrible plot.
Best Foreign Film:The Lies If Others
Wow it wasn’t Pans Labyrinth, wooo hoo. A German film…..riviting…I am seriously falling asleep.
Wow Ellen is getting worse and worse….nose diving
Best Supporting Actress:Jennifer Hudson
I haven’t seen Dreamgirls but I will download it tomorrow. I think she is an American Idol reject and look at her now. I don’t remember her though.
Best Documentary Short Subject: The Blood of Tingzhou District
Ok folks the foreign crap is out of control. I guarantee this is the lowest rated Academy Awards, people are asleep and/or turning away.
Outstanding Documentary Feature:An Inconvienant Truth
This is the Al Gore feature about global warming. Everyone knew Al was going to win this…NO SURPRISE AT ALL. I bet the other films were WAY BETTER too. Oh well. This is a hot topic. Too bad its the aliens heating up our planet to slowly kill us.
Some BS Honorary Award:Marconi
Clint Eastwood did a half assed intro and honorary award to this guy for music. He did not earn this award rather got so old the academy decided to throw the old dog a bone. Thanks for wasting 8 minutes ofmy life.
Best Original Score:Babel
I watched Babel the day of the Oscars and that music drove me insane. It keep repeating over and over, very annoying and actually took away from the movie for me. Terrible.
Best Original Screenplay:Little Miss Sunshine
This movie was up against Pans Labyrinth and the Queen. I didn’t expect this movie to beat the other two. I really did like this movie alot and it was really nice. Congrats.
Best Original SongMelissa Etheridge / An Inconvienant Truth
This was the song done for the Al Gore movie. Everyone knew she had this locked down.
Best Editing: – Thelma Schoonmaker, for “The Departed
I agree with this pick. A masterpiece of a movie….still not as good as Goodfellas.
Best Leading Actress – Helen Mirren, for “The Queen
After seeing this movie, I immediately thought she was going to win the Oscar. She was born for that role. She also was the most attractive older woman at the show.
Best Leading Actor – Forest Whitaker, for “The Last King of Scotland
I did not see this movie yet, so I can’t bash this guy. I just think he is the most overrated actor in the history of Hollywood. I know that’s a bold statement but I will stand by it.
Best Director– Martin Scorsese, for “The Departed
We all knew it was Marty’s year… but even the doubters had to see it coming when Francis Ford Coppela, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg came out to present.
Best Picture: – The Departed
I was disappointed with Jack Nicolson’s performance, but was blown away by Leonardo and Matt Damon. THEY made the movie, not Marky Mark. Even though it was Scorsese’s top earner, it was NO GOODFELLAS.
I don’t understand why the even have a foreign film category when almost all the films were foreign. I am going to start a movement to get an AMERICAN CATEGORY added to make it fair. I hated this years Academy Awards. There has always been foreign films, the Academy shows how narrowminded they are by overcompensating all in one year. It is embarressing to say the least.

Wow, you really are a complete moron.

Pans Labyrinth was a good movie for a Latin director but when you compare apples to apples, its not in the same league, at all. Everyone is so goddamn PC now it’s lame. A retard in the Special Olympics could never take it to the hole against a Shaq.
By sparky on February 26th, 2007 at 4:56 am
it’s not about being PC, mate… You’re just a twat.

I think I have to agree with Sparky although not in the same terminology.
Pan’s Labyrinth was actually a good movie no matter the nationality of the director. Personally, being a Spanish speaker, I can see why a non-speaker might not have enjoyed the film as much as I did. On the other hand, everyone I know who saw the movie enjoyed it and they don’t speak any Spanish at all.

It was a good movie, but look at the movie trailer. They packaged the movie as this whole underworld with crazy special effects, and that totalled 12 minutes. They deceived the public with all the movie trailers, that’s my main point.

seriously, you have such large opinions and it makes you look like a complete idiot.

Mate, being a foreigner myself, from NZ, I can say either you are really terrible at being ‘tongue-in-cheek’, or just being a narrow-minded idiot with an internet connection. I keep reading because I can’t believe someone so stupid thinks their opinions matter.

I agree with most of the things they posted here. The Academy Awards is American. Also those Mexican guys stole Robert Altman’s style for the movie Babel. And what’s with the uderage nudity and child porn undertones with all those guy’s movies? They were decent movies but not in the same league as Hollywood’s. It’s like watching womens basketball compared to the NBA, its nice but not in the same league.

Wow… really endearing comments… Really, how elitist can you get? Even if it’s tounge in cheek, it’s ridiculous. By your reasoning, perhaps directors, crew and cast need to be from Hollywood/America. So bye bye to Canada, Australia, Britain, New Zealand - really, I mean it’s awarding achievement in mid to mainstream film. And if it happens to come from a Mexican, Aussie, Kiwi, Brit, Canadian et al then hey, so be it. Opinions are great - that’s what led to the awards going to who they did now and over the years. Deal with it!

The Departed sucked, why is this considered a great movie? It was stupid, vulgar, boring even with all the stupid gratuitous violence, non-suspenceful, did not hold my interest in any way shape or form, one of the worst movies I have ever seen but then again there are so many bad movies, Marky put a guy’s eye out with an ice pick in his past life, he’s a piece of trash, obviously everyone is just getting dumber and dumber when they think this is a great movie. I don’t care if a movie is vulgar or violent, there are great vulgar (Borat) and violent (Taxi Driver, Scarface) movies, but this definitely wasn’t one of them. A great movie is one you want to see again, how could anyone want to watch this again? There was nothing special about the acting, the plot, or anything else in the movie. Just my opinion, next time I’ll say how I really feel.

i think Blood Diamond should’ve won. Even though it wasn’t nominated for best picture, it was a very good movie. better tahn Departed BY FAR. I’m surprised by Leonardo Dicaprio’s acting job. It was good.
