The Golden Globes opened up as usual with last years supporting actor, George Clooney awarding this year’s supporting actress. Clooney made a joke in refence to Leonardo Dicaprio being nominated for two different acting categories saying that Leo is also getting the Golden Globe for supporting actress…. then he goes on to announce
(no surprise) Jennifer Hudson wins for her role in Dreamgirls. Jennifer Hudson also won for breakout female as this was her first acting role. Prior to this she was a contestant on American Idol. She gushed and cried during her acceptance (yet again, no surprise) “I had always dreamed but I never ever dreamed this big. This goes far beyond anything I could have ever imagined,” said supporting-actress winner Hudson, who dedicated her award to Florence Ballard, one of the singers from the Supremes on which “Dreamgirls” is based.
Anyway, on to award number two…Best song for a movie presented by Justin Timberlake (who we love here at Starmuscle) He makes a lame-o copycat joke about Leo winning this award too. But then goes on to redeem himself with a hysterical sight gag! Prince wins the award, and there is this big pause as JT is searching the crowd clearly expecting Prince to come up and accept, and finally when it is clear that Prince isn’t coming , JT steps up to the mike and squats down making himself 6 inches shorter and says “I’d like to accept this award on princes behalf”.
In case you are wondering I don’t intend to give a play by play of the entire show….just the parts I find humorous or even slightly interesting or relevant.
Evangeline Lily is smokin Hot as usual. Ellen Pompeo as usual is not. Both are nominated for leading lady in a television Drama but neither one wins nor does Patrica Arquette…Kevin Bacon’s wife Kyra Sedgewyck does win for a show I’ve never even heard of…The Closer…Is this a big show? I seriously have never even heard of it.
McDreamy was beaten out by a much less Handsome but much more witty Doctor for lead Actor in a Drama…House, played by Hugh Laurie. He gave quite comical acceptance speech which had everyone chuckling. He makes me want to check out this show.
Steve Carell presents a brand new category to the Golden Globes. It is the first new category to the Globes since the early 50’s . The new category is Best Animated Feature Film. The winner was Disney/Pixar’s Cars.
Meryl Streep wins for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy for her role in the Devil wears Prada. She beat out Annette Benning, Toni Colette, Beyonce Knowles, and Renee Zellweger. Streep was gracious and funny and classy and sincere in her acceptance.”I think I’ve worked with everybody in the room,” joked Streep, one of Hollywood’s winningest actresses during awards season. “It makes you want to cry with gratitude. Until next year.” Love you, Meryl. You deserved it! “That’s All”
OOOHH, As they are doing the close up shots for the supporting actor category, I see Prince sitting there. Wonder why he didn’t come up and accept his award. Caught in traffic? Bathroom run gone long ? We’ll find out. Wonder if JT will be feeling an uncomfortable moment later tonite after his short joke?
BTW Eddie Murphy won the category, beating out a list a hollywood heavy-hitters: Ben Affleck, Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, and Mark Wahlberg.
Lead actor TV series Musical or Comedy. And the nominees are: Alec Balwin , Zach Braff, Steve Carell, Tony Shaloub, and Jason Lee. Alec Baldwin beats out Front-runner Steve Carell who won last year for his role of Michael Scott on the greatest comedy of our time, The Office.
Ugly Betty takes the honors for Best Television series - Comedy. Ugly Betty beat out The Best Comedy of our time, The Office as well as my boys over at Entourage. Are you kidding me ??? Can we please have a recount ?
Ok, ammends have been made to Prince, who was caught in traffic as we suspected. They have just stopped the show to have him stand up and take his bow. this guy is such a freak I am quite sure he demanded some sort of recognition, apparently winning the award wasn’t enough! Well next time get there on time , Freak!
Lead Actress TV series Musical or Comedy. And the winner is: America Ferrera. “Oh my god I’m so sorry, I’m such a mess right now” (right now?). “It’s such an honor to play this role that I hear from young girls on a daily basis that makes them feel worthy and lovable and that they have more to offer the world than what they thought. It’s such an honor”.
Tom Hanks leads a tribute to Warren Beatty which in it’s own right was award worthy. Hanks has to be one of the best public speakers of our time. Every word out of his mouth is just delivered perfectly with such wit and cunning. I just sit in awe of him. Oh yeah, and Congratulations Warren.
Lead Actor - Motion picture Musical or Comedy This category was presented by Reese Witherspoon who took home last years Award in the Actress category. The Nominees for this category were: Sacha Baron Cohen, Aaron Eckhardt, Will Ferrel, and Johnny Depp. Sacha Baron Cohen wins it for his character, Borat!!! Cohen delivered a hysterical acceptance speech and had the whole room roaring with laughter at the expense of his Borat co-star. Cohen ended his speech by making reference to his legal battles by thanking, “every american who has not sued me”.
The five nominees for Best picture - Musical or Comedy are: Borat, Little Miss Sunshine, Thank you for Smoking, Dreamgirls, and The Devil wears Prada.
And the winner is ….Dreamgirls!
Creator and Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes accpted the Golden Globe for Best Television series - Drama for Grey’s Anatomy. I think you already know my position on this show so I will not waste my time giving them one more minute of my effort and time. All I have to say is, “Seriously ?? , Seriously ??”
Helen Mirren wins for Lead Actress - Motion Picture - Drama. I have had her picked for months and although the other performances were all wonderful they weren’t even in the same league as Helen Mirren. She simply was the Queen!!! Outstanding, Helen! There was never a doubt!
Actor- Motion Picture - Drama. This Category was Leonardo’s to lose he was nominated twice in the same category. First for Blood Diamond and also for The Departed. other nominees included : Will Smith for Pursuit of Happyness, Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland, and Peter O’Toole in Venus. Unbelievably though, Leo walked away with nothing. Being beaten out by Forest Whitaker twice over! This one was a shocker for most who expected Leo to take this one easily. Whitaker’s performance was superior though and he really did deserve this award. Sorry, Leo ! You’re still my Boy!!!!
Best Motion Picture - Drama
Babel
The Queen
Bobby
The Departed
Little Children
And the Award goes to ……Babel. I guess I’ll have to see this one now.
