Robert Redford Wants An Apology

robert redford quote at golden globes

Robert Redford has demanded an apology from US politicians, claiming President George W Bush’s government exploited public support during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

The 70-year-old actor used his opening night address on Thursday (18Jan07) at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival, the largest gathering of independent movie-makers in the Us, to criticise the government - and appeal for a public apology.

"Six years ago, we held off [saying anything negative about the administration]. But considering what’s happened, I think we’re owed an apology. Anyone with a rational mind and a sense of decency is being positioned as a lefty by the extreme right. I believe in the tenets of democracy, and when they get pushed, it pisses me off."

Bush owes the whole United States, in particular the thousands of American causalities (both KAI’s & wounded) an apology and then to resign (or be impeached) whichever is the quickest.

    Dear Mr. Redford,

I am responding to your request for an apology on behalf of President Goerge Bush Jr. First of all, while I am not as informed as I would like to be I would venture to say that The United States of America really did need to interceed in both Afghanistan and in Iraq. In Afghanistan the issue had actually been the preservation of liberty in that the equivalent of three caravans full of United Nations representatives were being held in a hostage type situation similar to The Iran Hostage Crises under Jimmy Carter. Unfortunately, although the majority of the prisoners were rescued two United Nations Representatives on a peace-keeping mission were detained. The man was beheaded while the woman was used as a prostitute and forcibly addicted to drugs. The United States promoting Democracy to the degree which it always has around the World could not afford to let Al Queda and its supporters in Afghanistan take these actions against innocents without taking a stand against these actions. Iraq, on the other hand, is a situation in which The people of Iraq were being abused and murdered by a Dictator who did respect the sanctity of human life. He was totally opposed to Democracy as a form of Government to the extent that he did begin storing weapons of “mass destruction” for use against The United States Government, it’s citizens, business holdings, and protectorates. Although he did eventually move these “weapons of mass destruction” to Mexico, they were used against the people of The United States particularly in New Jersey, Florida, New York, and Illinois. At the same time, as long as the people of Iraq lived under the oppression of Saddam Hussein’s regime they were begging The United States Government to interceede in Iraq on their behalf insisting that they wanted to live under Democratic Rule. Once again, The United States had no choice but to interceede in the management of Iraq by sending in the United States Military. Now that Hussein is dead the people of Iraq feel that they no longer need The United States in their Nation. Consequently, they are manifesting feelings of resentment towards our Troops. They promised us oil for our help in ridding Iraq of The Tyranny of Hussein. Now that The United States has done this to the tune of the lives of many men and women, The people of Iraq do not want to follow through with the oil although they are trying to implement the tenents of Democracy in their Nation. You want an apology from whom? Is it from President George Bush Jr. or is it from The People of Iraq? Although you suggest that you ask for an apology from President George Bush Jr. I think that you must really mean that you want an apology from Iraq. I cannot apologize to you for The Nation of Iraq, but I can tell you that President George Bush Jr. and his Administration are committed to promoting and inforcing The System of Democracy at home and abroad always. Thank you for your time and for your reaffirmation and support of the continuation of Democracy in The United States of America.

    Sincerely,
    Cleo Elaine Brown-Allen Ph.D.
