Chevy Chase, who portrayed Gerald Ford as a klutz on “Saturday Night Live,” says he does not enjoy the renewed attention the ex-president’s death has brought him.
“I’m just a guy who made some fun of Gerald Ford in 1976, and I prefer to be left alone, really,” the 63-year-old comedian said last week from a Colorado ski resort where he had been skiing with his daughter.
“The man who ‘made my career’ did not do ‘Fletch,’ did not do ‘Caddyshack,’ did not write for the Smothers Brothers before he wrote for ‘Saturday Night Live,’ did not write for 12 years before that and win Writers Guild awards,” he said.
“It’s that kind of thing that comes out in the press that perpetuates myths about me that are disgusting, that hurt my feelings, that hurt my family’s feelings.”
Chase said he later became friendly with Ford and called the Republican “a very, very sweet man.”
Hey Chevy, you should be happy that anyone is even interviewing you. You act all diva-like, all arrogant. Maybe that’s why your phone hasn’t been ringing for jobs. I am an old fan of Chevy’s but after stories like these, I can understand why I don’t get excited when I see him on TV.
Recently Chevy Chase played the “mel gibson” “anti-jew” character on Law and Order, and it was absolutely horrible. The commercials hyped it up, “TORN FROM THE HEADLINES”…when I watched it, Chevy’s performance was undeniably amateur at best.
I also saw Chevy in a kid’s movie, “Zoom” where he played, Dr. Grant (the gadget maker) and I swear he didn’t even bother studying his lines. Maybe they called it ad-libbing, I called him unprepared. Even for a kid’s movie it was terrible.
So in closing, Chevy you are on the same low level as a Pauly Shore. Be happy people still remember you and want your opinion. You are 2007’s first A-HOLE of the Day. Congratulations.
