Celebrity Gossip From Star Muscle

New Years Party 2007

Is there a bitter feud over who will be hosting the New Years Party after Dick Clark retires?

Carson Daly and Ryan Seacrest are roughly the same age (early 30s), have similar job descriptions (broadcasters/emcees-turned-producers with a pop-music bent) and even favor the same fashionably laid-back, I-didn’t-shave-this-morning look. But Daly dismisses any notion that the pair are engaged in a fizzy rivalry to replace you-know-who. Here at Star Muscle we know what these celebrities are really thinking.

The holiday’s importance has grown along with the media industry, which seldom misses an opportunity to lock down viewer loyalty. Last year’s ratings make it depressingly clear that, when the last night of the year rolls around, many of us still have nothing better to do than … yes, watch more TV.

Someday, Seacrest presumably will take over the Rockin’ Eve franchise. Daly has some way to go before his program poses a serious ratings threat to Rockin’ Eve. But he’s willing to take the long view.

Ryan Seacrest was one lame catch phrase launched through the American Idol phenom.

Carson Daly has a ton of talent, but is losing that young edge each year.

Seacrest is like 50 but looks 17, just like Dick Clark and seems to be the likely candidate.

I am waiting to see Dick Clark’s head in a glass jar like a Futurama episode. His handicap last New Years really bummed everyone out. I won’t be able to sit through that again.
